About the role

We now require an ambitious Financial Controller who has qualified (ACCA/CIMA/ACA) within the last 3-years, to join our team as soon as possible.

You will be accountable for the execution of the business strategy from a financial and operations perspective. You will be a proactive member of the Senior Management Team, with responsibility for driving profitable growth of the business.

In conjunction with the Senior Management Team, you will provide strategic leadership across the agency. You will be passionate about driving business growth, profitability and efficiency. You will play a critical role in the business strategy function helping the group to deliver against an exciting and ambitious vision.

You will be a ‘hands-on’ Financial Controller with oversight of a Senior Finance Assistant who you will work with to ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the finance function.

In addition to reporting to the Board, you will be mentored by one of this industry’s most experienced CFO’s – helping you develop your role within the business, providing guidance, motivation and support.


The day-to-day responsibilities of the Financial Controller will vary; however, focus will be on the following areas of activity:

  • Ongoing financial planning, analysis and forecasting.

  • Prepare and be accountable for annual budgets and targets.

  • Manage and execute monthly accounting and financial reporting with focus on driving profitability and cash flow.

  • Prepare accurate and timely financial management reports with actionable commentary and analysis.

  • Develop, analyse and interpret financial information to make and implement recommendations for improving operational efficiencies that improve profitability.

  • Oversight of client financial management including client bill rates, cost estimates and quotations.

  • Active participation in new business proposal and RFP process.

  • Manage the client contract process with client services team and the financial on-boarding process for new clients.

  • Work in partnership with the Board on strategic growth opportunities, including but not limited to product development, product launches, pricing models, acquisitions and investment.

  • Lead the preparation of annual accounts with external accounting firm.

  • Manage all bookkeeping requirements internally - supplier invoices, sales invoices, payroll, VAT and corporation tax.

  • Coach, mentor and motivate team members on the importance of time tracking, client P&Ls, strategy and the agency business model.

  • Assess, improve and implement financial and operational processes to increase efficiencies, improve financial controls and enhance value across the agency.

  • Manage the services provided by external accountancy firms and financial institutions.

About you

  • An experienced and qualified Finance Manager / Financial Controller with up to 3 years’ PQE, preferably within an agency environment.

  • Experience working in a services based business, ideally from a creative / media / consultancy background.

  • Experience of giving financial and business counsel at the board and executive management level.

  • Proven experience of adding value by implementing improved systems and processes.

  • Commercial client and vendor contract negotiation skills would be an advantage.

  • Strong proficiency in accounting and project management software.

  • ACCA/CIMA qualified or equivalent for at least two years.

  • Good communicator to ensure that senior management understands the numbers and the business strategy to achieve the numbers.

  • Ability to communicate the importance of financial and business imperatives to non-financial staff.

  • Common sense, drive and initiative.

Additional information

  • Location (2020): Working remotely for the rest of 2020.

  • Location (2021): London (SE1) will need to be accessible to you as we return to some form of office structure (pandemic permitting).

  • Working Hours: 9.30am to 5.30pm.

  • Flexi-Time: Our flexi-time policy covers the hours 4pm-5.30pm which enables you to move that time to earlier or later in the day, or another day that week (subject to meetings and any other commitments).

  • Annual Leave: 25 days per annum, plus an additional day for each completed year with the agency (capped at 28 days).

  • Birthday: You don’t work your birthday. That’s another day in the bag!
